Sakeliga / Business League 2019

Friday, 01 March 2019 15:20

The smooth talker and intimidator.”

Van Der Byl Bergh:“Die Stellenbosch Rolbal Klub se aandliga is altyd 'n vreugdevolle gebeurtenis wat Van Der Byl Bergh nooit misloop nie.  Altyd lekker samesyn met goeie kompeterende spel.”

The 2018/19 summer season's league was held over four Wednesday evenings from 30th January. The 14 rinks of the two greens were fully occupied every night by 28 teams consisting of 112 very enthusiastic players, young and old, of both sexes mainly from the town's business community.

Competition between the teams was fierce and the quality of the game was noticeably better than previous years. Fifteen teams scored 30 points or more in the final and the Ebowla team with 46 points won the competition. In second place was the Wille Honne team followed by the Vanderbylbergh team in third place. None of these teams ended in the first three places the previous year.

As in previous years, there was once again plenty of socializing and a hearty feast on homemade food after each evenings play, with a braai and a good wine auction at the prize giving on the last night..

What do the teams say about themselves and the business league?

Ebowla: “We are four friends playing together. We are there for the sport and the delicious food we get afterwards and to enjoy some drinks as friends. When we are on the bowling greens, the competitive nature of all of us comes out.

We enjoy the bowls and have made many friends in the process.

The evening league is a highlight in our year that we all look forward to. ”

Wille Honne: “Our team consists of Rikus Serdyn, the skip, strategist and the Wille Dog of marrow and bone; Johan Bredenkamp the number 3 roller, the outdoor horse that has become an inner horse; Jacques Hanekom the number 2 roller, our bartender and x-factor and our Lead Jaco Eckly, the smooth talker and intimidator. ”

Van Der Byl Bergh: “The bowls and evening party of the Stellenbosch Bowls Club is always a joyous event that Van Der Byl Bergh never misses. Always great to be together with good competitive bowling. "
