Jaarlikse Betty Marcusdag-toernooi / Annual Betty Marcus Day Tournament

Friday, 07 December 2018 10:10

Annual Betty Marcus Day Tournament

The Betty Marcus Day bowls tournament is one of the important events in the Stellenbosch Van der Stel Bowls Club’s calendar and has been held annually since 1962.

A large cup and a substantial donation was donated to the Club by the late Mr. Sam Marcus, a former Stellenbosch businessman, in memory of his late wife, who passed away in 1960 at the young age of 54. Betty was apparently a very popular and hard worker for the Club and her name is perpetuated by this very popular bowls tournament. Originally, the competition was exclusively for lady bowlers, but many years ago the rules were relaxed, enabling men to also participate in a team of four players, provided though that a lady captains the team.

Teams from all over the Western Cape enter and compete in the tournament.
